Vanessa Hammer, Marketing Coordinator

I was one of those “late-bloomers” that didn’t get her driving license until I was 18 (It was forced, my parents had to throw me behind the wheel. (That, and I also failed my first driving test). Upon realizing how uncomfortable I was with driving, and with wanting to live in a bigger city, I settled in Portland after High School and quickly learned how easy it was to get everywhere….by foot.

I have since then graduated from college and I have been living in Portland for about 8 years.  I am a huge supporter of using alternative modes of transportation whenever possible, but I lean towards feeling more comfortable when I’m walking. I’ve weathered the snow, the torrential downpours, the burning hot sun, and learning how to carry heavy grocery bags at least a mile home. It doesn’t bother me, and it’s nice to notice all the details of your city that you would normally miss while driving. While walking around and happening upon small cafes, specialty grocery stores, rock climbing facilities, and independent boutiques – I’ve developed quite the passion for cooking, coffee, and going for a climb whenever possible. Purchasing the occasional pair of shoes or a new dress on a whim never hurts too…. It is so nice to be a part of a firm that works to promote and support bicycling and walking as a part of everyday life, and I love being in a city where I can walk home from work and see so many others doing the same.
