Solano Bikeway, Solano, CA

The Solano Bikeway Project, first identified as part of the Solano Countywide Bicycle Plan, is a two-mile Class I facility located along the southeast side of I-80 in Vallejo. Alta Principal Michael Jones helped the City of Vallejo obtain funding to plan, design, and construct the path, compiled a feasibility study on preliminary alternative alignments, and also completed an Initial Study to determine potential impacts. The project starts at Columbus Parkway near I-80 in Vallejo and climbs the Coast Range Sulfur Springs Mountains, where it connects to McGary Road and continues as an on-street bike route. The project is located within the Caltrans right-of-way of I-80 from Columbus Parkway to McGary Road. The Solano Bikeway is a primary connector in the countywide bikeway system, as well as a regionally significant connector in the Bay Trail system, the Bay Area Ridge Trail, and the State Recreational Trails Plan. The project was completed in 2000.
