As I sat in a potato field in central Wisconsin, recording the evapotraspiration rates of lambsquarter, I realized I wanted to be part of something bigger, where I could see and enjoy the direct results of my work – work that was meaningful and practical. At Alta, I have the pleasure of seeing the results of our work everyday - by creating places where people can walk, bike, and run safely with a smile on their face. As an avid urban runner and a parent, I want my children to be able to experience the joy and self satisfaction of active transportation and recreation. Working for Alta allows me to rub shoulders with the best and the brightest, and to make sure we protect and enhance the bicycling and pedestrian environment for future generations.

Alta is creating a bicycle and pedestrian plan for the city that will create “safe, functional, convenient, and attractive” bicycle and pedestrian facilities that provide key linkages within the city and neighboring communities. Plan elements include the creation of a comprehensive, connected and well maintained bicycle network, policy and ordinance review and recommendations for Complete Streets, creation of a comprehensive bicycle map, fostering a community of support for non-motorized transportation options and modes of travel, creation of a bicycle advisory committee and recommendations for education and enforcement activities. - De Soto Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, MO
Alta assisted Trailnet in the development of a bicycle and pedestrian network that will connect the various neighborhoods and commercial areas of De Soto. The consultant team also provided suggestions for programs to encourage biking and walking and for teaching safe biking and walking practices. Alta worked with a steering committee, Trailnet staff, and residents to map the existing conditions, develop recommendations for on- and off-street facilities, and create a list of priority projects to be completed in the next five years.
