Moapa Valley Trails Study

he Moapa Valley is located northeast of Las Vegas and home to the towns of Logandale and Overton. It is an oasis of green in a vast desert environment. The Muddy River winds through the valley surrounded by picturesque hills. The river provides the opportunity for irrigation and the valley supports an agricultural land use unique to the Mojave Desert. Walkers and joggers are a common sight in the early morning hours in the valley as they move along roadway shoulders and irrigation canals. A well developed trail system will give the residents recreational opportunities as well as alternative transportation facilities.

The trails study will document the existing conditions and evaluate user demand for a trail network in the valley. Network options will be evaluated and presented to the public for input. The final product will be a trails plan including cost estimates, phasing and possible funding sources.

This study works to capture the opportunities afforded by this dynamic setting through the development of a trail network linking key destinations. Within Logandale and Overton, park sites, schools, museums, neighborhoods, the fairgrounds, commercial and business centers are all key destinations that will be well served by a trail network. In addition, important regional linkages have been included in the plan including the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, as well as potential OHV access and connections.
