Alta works with agencies and organizations to identify, protect and improve green space for people, plants, and animals. Our projects include comprehensive services - study of city-wide or regional open space and park systems; use and management plans for specific parks and preserves; master plans for active recreation or low-intensity public access; permitting and environmental documents; construction bid documents, and construction management.
Alta staff include former park and open space agency managers and professional designers with experience taking these areas from concept through completion, and managing them over the long term. We understand the opportunities, challenges, funding mechanisms, planning steps, and design, management and maintenance standards specific to sites in urban to remote settings. We are experienced with all forms of active and passive parks and recreation - sports fields, playgrounds, bike parks, and OHV parks; historic sites and structures; and wilderness, nature and open space preserves. Our projects include highly scenic and sensitive settings, with a particular focus on waterfronts and rivers, and often involve significant complexity and sometimes controversy.
