Alta studies, plans and designs for the use and protection of open space and natural resource areas. We help plan, integrate and implement sustainable public access, active land stewardship with existing uses such as agriculture, water resources, and forestry. We regularly provide services to land trusts, open space districts, and local, regional, state and federal land management agencies. Our experience includes the use, adaptive re-use, and demolition and removal of surplus structures and facilities, the restoration of developed, damaged sites to a sustainable condition. Our projects often involve endangered species habitat protection, mitigation and enhancement; protection and interpretation of sensitive cultural resources; work with agricultural, forestry or water system operators to ensure that public use is compatible with these activities, and that they are compatible with open space and resource protection objectives.
Policies and strategies for land acquisition and protection:
- General plan open space elements;
- Assessments and analyses of resources, opportunities and constraints;
- Site management and improvement plans;
- Grant application preparation and follow-up;
- Construction documents, support on bid process, and construction management;
- Permit applications for review by regulatory and environmental agencies.
