Manayunk Development Corporation is creating a bicycle and pedestrian trail across the Manayunk Bridge and along the Ivy Ridge rail line with $1.3M in funding from PADOT’s Pennsylvania Community Transportation Initiative. The goal of this project is to create a new trail that will provide a link between the Cynwyd Heritage Trail in Lower Merion, the Fairmount Park Bikeway/Manayunk Tow Path, the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT), and Umbria Street. Alta is assisting with final design and construction for this new trail connection that will provide bicyclists and pedestrians with more paved, off-road trail between Philadelphia, Lower Merion Township (LMT) and Montgomery County. It will serve as the first bicycle/pedestrian river crossing on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. It will also lay the groundwork through property research for the last section from Ivy Ridge Station to the Shawmont section of the Schuylkill Trail.
