Thinking back, I realize I've sought out walking and jogging routes in every city I've lived in. I feel an element of discovery and connection to nature while walking and biking that calls me outdoors be it for five minutes or five hours. From strolling through the hills behind my parents' house as a kid, to jogging along Santa Barbara's coastal bluffs in College, to lunch time rides on Sacramento's American River Trail, to commuting by bike in Berkeley; wherever I am, that time outdoors is one of the favorite parts of my day. I'm excited about my work with Alta, where I get to share my love of the outdoors with the communities around me.

East-West Bikeway Corridor Feasibility Study
The primary purpose of the East-West Bikeway Feasibility Study is to identify a feasible, safe and efficient east-west bikeway alignment from the western limit of the Town of Fairfax to Downtown San Rafael in Marin County, CA and develop implementation methods. This alignment would serve bicycle commuters, school children, local utilitarian bicyclists and the many recreational cyclists traversing the Ross Valley. Kristin’s contribution included graphic illustrations, preparation of cost estimates for the proposed improvements and report writing.
Other Related Experience
- Thailand Summer Studio Participant, the UCB College of Environmental Design and Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, 2007. Kristin worked in a team of American and Thai graduate students to produce an implementation plan for the islands of Ko Lanta to remain socially, economically and ecologically sustainable in the face of increasing tourism pressures. Kristin’s primary focus was evaluating local and regional transportation opportunities. She conducted field studies on Ko Lanta, met with local planners, government officials, and stakeholder groups and helped produce a written report of recommendations and visual illustrations which was given to the Thai Public Policy Foundation.
- City of Elk Grove Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP), Elk Grove, CA, 2004. This BPMP identifies existing facilities, opportunities, constraints and destination points for bicyclists and pedestrians within the city right-of-way and presents an implementation program for the proposed facilities. While working as an Assistant Planner, Kristin assisted with this report by soliciting and analyzing public input, preparing the proposed facilities map and writing the report.
