Moapa Valley Trails Plan Study

The Moapa Valley is located northeast of Las Vegas and home to the towns of Logandale and Overton. The Muddy River supports this green oasis in the vast desert environment by providing irrigation for agricultural land uses. Walkers and joggers are a common sight in the early morning hours in the valley as they move along roadway shoulders and irrigation canals. A well developed trail system will give the residents recreational opportunities as well as alternative transportation facilities.

This study captured the opportunities afforded by this dynamic setting through the development of a comprehensive on and off-street trail network that linked key destinations and accommodated a variety of trail users, including equestrians and OHV riders. Using the Muddy River as the backbone of the trail system, important regional linkages were made to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Logandale Trails system and the Valley of Fire.

The trails study documented the existing conditions and evaluated user demand for a trail system. Network options were evaluated and presented to the public for input. The final product included a trails plan with design standards, cost estimates, permitting summary, phasing maintenance strategies, and potential funding sources.
