Bicycle and pedestrian planning and design is one of our long-term strengths. Alta’s comprehensive services for multimodal-oriented plans and projects include idea development from the conceptual stages all the way through to happy communities enjoying the finished project.
We start with analysis elements such as feasibility and traffic studies, opportunities/constraints, accurate cost estimations and funding strategies, user projection, future benefit analysis and more. We help with public involvement, agency coordination, policy recommendations, and implementation strategies. We can design the project, produce the maps and graphics, and coordinate all aspects of design. When the bikeway or walkway project or system is in place, we can monitor use, assess project success, and consult on upgrades or adjustments.

Greenville, SC Bicycle Master Plan
After earning the national designation as a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community in 2009, the city stated its intent to earn Silver-level status and ultimately, reach Platinum. With that goal in mind, the city, aka "Bikeville," hired Alta to begin the process of developing a comprehensive Bicycle Master Plan in 2010.

In the last five years, Alta has completed over 15 NCDOT-sponsored pedestrian plans, including Greensboro, Jacksonville, Holly Springs, Rocky Mount, Butner, Wake Forest, and Albemarle.
City of San Mateo Citywide Bikeways Master Plan, CA
Alta prepared the City of San Mateo Bicycle Master Plan providing detailed plans for a comprehensive bicycle network, access to Caltrain commuter rail and detailed guidance for improving the City's bicycle parking and other end of trip facilities.

West Des Moines Bicycle Master Plan, IA
West Des Moines is a rapidly-growing community located just west of the City of Des Moines. Ranking 94th in Money Magazine’s list of the “100 Best Places to Live and Launch,” the city benefits from many natural areas in the Des Moines region. The goal of the West Des Moines Bicycle Master Plan is to provide an assessment of West Des Moines’ existing bicycling and trail policies and environment in order to develop a comprehensive list of projects and strategies for system-wide improvements.
