I practically lived on my bicycle as a kid, a habit that continued through my 20s and 30s. Now I live in a rural area where bike commuting is challenging and I’m forced to rely on my car more than I ever have before, so I’m inspired to support the bicycling and walking communities in other ways. I see so much that can be done to encourage people to use alternative modes of transportation – and to reduce their impact on the earth, too. There’s no more pressing issue than reducing every human’s carbon footprint, whether it’s by bicycling instead of driving, recycling, or reducing overall consumption. Alta embodies the values of stewardship and activism that I hold near and dear to my heart, and I’m proud to be working towards making our environment more livable.
“Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do
Or do without”

She has also worked with the City of Portland’s SmartTrips program, Marin County’s Way to Go! program, and Safe Routes to School programs covering both local and nationally-driven efforts.
Recent Projects
Safe Routes to School National Conference (Portland, OR)
Anne was part of the design team that created the look and feel for the entire conference: logo, program, wayfinding signage, maps, and presentations. Large quantities of collateral were produced and delivered on a tight timeline.
Way to Go! (Marin County, CA)
This three-year individualized marketing program is a key part of WalkBikeMarin (Marin County’s implementation of the Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program). The Way to Go! program will reduce drive-alone trips in selected cities in Marin County. The success of these programs depends in part on the marketing materials, and the bright, eye-catching graphics captured the attention of the audience and increased participation rates with compelling, clearly delivered messaging.
Neighborhood Bike and Walk Maps (Portland, OR)
While with another firm, Anne worked to create a series of user-friendly maps for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users. The maps were updated every year as new facilities were added, and high demand by users necessitated frequent reprints. The maps continue to be popular and are often requested by other municipalities as an example of excellent map design.
